New Little Sister – Baby Girl Claire

Cute little Claire, all pink and pouty lips and hair! I have never seen a baby girl with such cute little features! Working with this family makes me so happy, especially to see this little bundle of happy! Claire’s family is so sweet, especially with Big Brother Jacob to watch over her and give her lots of snuggles. How has your family adjusted to the idea of adding to your family? I have one son, age 3. I’m not sure yet how I feel about the idea of more, even though I come from a big family. What I do know is that Jacob is so sweet with his new little sister! They are peas in a pod.
I can tell this family is going to fun as she grows.
Here is the start of Claire’s journey in the world!

What was the first thing you thought when you saw your baby for the first time?

I was very anxious and scared during the labor process (more than during my labor with our first child). But once baby Claire arrived and was in my arms, I immediately felt overwhelmingly calm and peaceful. She was (and is) perfect.

How are you all adjusting to Claire joining the family?
We have a 2 1/2 year old son- Jacob and he is so adorable when he is around baby Claire. He gives her at least 20 hugs/snuggles per day and says “I love you baby Claire” just as often too. Jacob always wants to help (bathing, putting the pacifier back in her mouth, snuggling), except he hasn’t volunteered for any diaper changes yet!

Have we done a session before? Tell me something you remember from our shoot.
Our previous session together was in 2017 at Retzer Nature Center to get shots of our family and our son, Jacob, who just turned 1 year old. It was an amazing session because we (including Jacob) immediately felt comfortable working with Kara despite never meeting before. We were able to relax and get some great shots that we cherish!

What was your favorite part about our session together?
My favorite part about our newborn session was how open Kara was with getting some shots of our family as part of our newborn session. While we were certainly looking forward to the shots of baby Claire alone, our other priority was getting some high quality shots of the newborn with the family- and they turned out AMAZING.

How was your experience having your newborn photographed?
What an excellent experience having our newborn photographed! I wasn’t nervous or worried beforehand as we are very easygoing people. We loved how relaxed we could be during our session. Jacob felt more comfortable and effectively participate with the session. Seeing Kara’s work on other newborn portrait sessions gave us confidence in her skills and her approach to handling the newborn with care. Given how comfortable we were with Kara, I decided not to watch most of the session (even though Kara said it was perfectly fine to watch) as I was worried my baby would sense my presence and have a harder time relaxing. I’m glad I did because everything turned out better than I could have hoped!

Anything else you think the world should know about your newborn session?
We didn’t do a newborn session with our first child and we regret it! So, even if you didn’t do a session with your first child, consider doing it for the next children anyway (the first child will probably forgive you, eventually).

What would be your advice to someone getting newborn photographs taken?
Ask whatever questions you need to ahead of time to help get completely comfortable with the photographer. If you aren’t 100% comfortable with the photographer, your session might not turn out as well as you hoped, even if it is the best photographer in the world.

Bundle of Joy – Baby Girl Emerson

Isn’t it crazy that one little girl can create so much love & joy?
Emerson is already wrapping Daddy around her tiny finger. Have you ever seen a newborn session with a cigar collection? Alex wanted a special picture of his baby and his hobby for his office, and we delivered! The blue and red of the box are stunning, perfect for the swaddle cloth we had her in. Mom loves fall so we added some cute accessories and leaves from outside the studio in Downtown Waukesha. Everyone is happy! She is a bundle of joy!

It was such a special experience working with this new little family because Meg & Kara where friends with this Mama in high school. This gal is lucky to have such amazing parents. She is pretty vocal about how much she likes them too, she makes lots of fun sounds!

What was the first thing you thought when you saw your baby for the first time?

The first moment I saw Emerson I was struck by this overwhelming sense of love and emotion. After spending 9 months waiting to meet this little person, everything became real. My first thought was that I wanted to make sure Emerson knows that she is safe, loved, and supported by her Mom and Dad.

What was your favorite part about our session together?

Prior to the session, Kara took the time to ask questions to get an idea of what my husband and I were looking for in our newborn session. We asked Kara to take the lead and we’re very glad we did! Not only did Kara present a variety of options, she always asked for input on colors and poses before and during the session. Kara is accommodating, thoughtful, and has a true gift for capturing how delicate and innocent newborns are.

How was your experience having your newborn photographed? Were you nervous or worried before? How did it turn out?

I was a little nervous that Emerson might be fussy or wouldn’t be comfortable with certain poses. Turns out-Kara is a total baby whisperer! She made Emerson feel incredibly comfortable, gently moved her from one pose to the next, and soothed her with ease. Thanks to Kara, Emerson was asleep nearly the entire time!

What would be your advice to someone getting newborn photographs taken?

I spent years admiring Kara’s work. So when the time came to pick a photographer for my newborn, there was no question I would choose Kara. My advice would be to take your time to get a sense of a photographers style and how it complements your own.

Did you bring a sentimental item to our shoot? If so, what was it and please share why it’s such a special item for you.

My husband has a passion for cigars and before Emerson was born he purchased a 2018 special edition box to commemorate her birth. We brought the box along for some photos for my husband’s office. The photos with the box are so beautiful!

Anything else you think the world should know about your newborn session?

Walking into Kara’s studio for the reveal of Emerson’s newborn photos was like magic. The presentation was so thoughtful and we were so happy with we chose to have Kara capture these memories.

      Rustic Waukesha Family Portraits

      Bohemian Fall Family

I dare you to look at these images and not smile ear to ear. The joy is contagious! The Bolstad family was looking for a Bohemian feel to their fall family session. I think we captured the look! With beautiful flowers and a bunch of giggles, this was the most fun family session to work on. Did I mention the custom-made outfits? Christina is an amazing seamstress! I love having this family as clients and sharing these images with you all. Have you visited Retzer Nature Center?

        Baby Cora Dressed In Coral

Here is a one-on-one interview with Cora’s Mom:

How did you hear about Kara Reese Photography?

This was our second time visiting Kara for newborn photos. Our first daughter was born in March of 2016 and we were introduced to Kara through a friend. When we found out we were pregnant again, there was no question that we would be returning to Kara to photograph our newest addition!

Do you have any other children? How have they adjusted?

We have one older daughter, Abigail, who is 2.5 years old. She absolutely loves her little sister. The moment Cora makes any sort of noise Abigail will yell “I’m coming baby Cora!” And run to wherever she is. During the shoot, Abigail frequently went to see how her “baby Cora” was doing.

What was the first thing you thought when you saw your baby for the first time?

        Oh my god! She’s perfect!

What was your favorite part about our session together?

My husband is an avid duck hunter and we asked to incorporate some of his gear into a few shots of Cora. Kara did it without question and the photos came out beautifully!

How was your experience having your newborn photographed?

Since we know Kara and the spectacular job she does with newborns, we were completely comfortable going into the session. We knew Cora would be in the best of hands, aside of our own! Some advice for other parents, be sure to listen to the directions given by the photographer prior to the session. A fed baby is the best to photograph! Also, these photos last forever. If you really want a certain pose or theme- speak up! You’ll regret not mentioning it.

Anything else you want the world to know about your session?

The newborn stage goes by so fast. If you are considering having photographs taken, go through with it and do it! Once you decide to, you must see Kara Reese Photography- her work is simply amazing!

          Baby Boy + His Dog

What was the first thing you thought when you saw your baby for the first time?

Pure love! We had waited for what seemed like forever to meet him. When he was finally here it was a feeling like no other. I’ve never felt so much joy. Seeing the look on my husbands face I knew he felt the same.

How was your experience having your newborn photographed? Were you nervous or worried before? How did it turn out?

Our experience was great! Knowing that Kara has specific training and such a passion for photographing newborns, we knew our baby was in good hands. There was no need to worry. You could tell throughout the process that she was enjoying the session just as much as we were. When we got the photos back, they were even better than we imagined. She captured all the best moments of our little guy.

What was your favorite part about our session together?

Seeing Kara work and how we got to just sit and watch and enjoy the whole thing. She had everything all ready to go. Kara set up by each area and it was exactly our style! I remember just watching her do her thing with the wraps and how they were almost braided together, it was amazing!

What would be your advice to someone getting newborn photographs taken?

Look for someone who has your same style and has experience with newborns. There’s so many important factors from making sure the babies safe in certain positions to keeping them warm the whole time. You want to know your new addition is in great hands!

Did you bring a sentimental item to our shoot? If so, what was it and please share why it's such a special item for you.

Not so much an item, but we brought our dog along. He is a big part of our lives and we love including him in anything possible. We hope Teigan grows up becoming best friends with him and he will then have these pictures to look back on, and so will we!

Anything else you think the world should know about your newborn session?

I hear all the time people wondering if it’s worth spending the time and money on getting newborn photos since you are taking so many pictures yourself during the first months. My husband was one of those skeptics too at first, but as soon as he started seeing the pictures being taken and the end result he knew it was completely worth it. We now get to enjoy them hanging on our wall everyday!
